alrighty first off coloring your hair is damaging including if you highlight it and deposit color back to a deeper brown. In your case I highly suggest PRODUCT.

The following help to rebuild your hair:

Paul Mitchell: Supper Strong (rebuilds damaged hair).

Paul Mitchell: Heat seal (seals hair and protects from heat)

Paul Mitchell: Supper Skinny (leave in light conditioner)

Use those three in combination, and give it about 1 month to see some difference in hair condition. It is important though that if color is not holding go to a professional we know what we are doing and can analyze the hair.

To help smooth I suggest getting for sleek, skinny, smooth- use a ceramic iron- and make sure it is professional products to assure getting the sleek and rebuilding of your damaged hair.

I would suggest getting your hair cut. If it is damaged the hair will not get any better if you leave it on. Maybe you could get a really good trim and the color will gradually grow out. Keep heat out of your hair and deep condition every chance you get.

My advice is to get a very short "pixie" haircut, which a talented hairdresser can shape to make your hair appear to have more volume. This has the added benefit of removing most of the damaged hair, and it won't take long for it to grow out enough for you to cut of the rest of the damage. As for the colour, just leave it alone for now and let it grow in naturally. It might look bad right now, but it'll probably look a lot worse if you mess with it any more. Some conditioners may give it some temporary shine in the meanwhile, but the visible part of your hair is dead, so you can't really repair it. Just start over, and next time be kind to it =)
